Distance Education

Many Spencerian College classes are offered exclusively online or in a blended format where you complete a portion of the course online and a portion on campus or at approved sites/facilities. Entrance and graduation requirements for distance education classes and on-campus classes are the same.

If you enroll in an online program and then move to a location that, due to distance, makes it to difficult to get to campus or your original sponsoring facility for required labs and practicum experiences, you could jeopardize your ability to complete the program.

You must complete Spencerian College's online non-credit introductory course "Student Quick Start," which explains the features of the Learning Management System, before beginning your first distance education class. You must also complete a self-assessment that evaluates whether your technical ability and personal traits will contribute to or hinder your success in an online course, and you are encouraged to review a demonstration course.

As a distance education, you must have access to a PC (minimum 56k Modem) with an Internet connection. Spencerian College utilizes ANGEL Learning, Inc. software, a fully integrated elearning platform that allows us to rapidly create, deliver and measure interactive learning over the Internet.

You must purchase any software that may be required for a specific course. All assignments must be submitted by using Microsoft Word 2007 or newer, Excel and Access. There is an additional per credit hour charge for distance education classes (see Supplement A). You will be provided statements to assess your technical ability and personal traits for success in a distance education course. Your acceptance into a class is contingent upon your eligibility to take the class. The Registrar will verify that you have met the prerequisites and course requirements. Students enrolled in online programs receive first priority for online classes. Other students are accepted on a space available basis.

Once you are accepted into a class, you will receive a confirmation of registration that includes the following:

  • Course number(s)
  • Instructions for accessing the course web page
  • Student login and password for the course
  • Information on how to immediately access the introductory course, "Student Quick Start," which explains the features of the Learning Management System
  • Date the course(s) will be available to access (Monday of Week 1)
